About This Format
Data Matrix is a compact two-dimensional (2D) matrix symbology standardized under ISO/IEC 16022. It consists of black and white square modules arranged inside an “L”-shaped solid perimeter finder pattern and two alternating timing tracks. Using robust ECC 200 Reed-Solomon error correction, Data Matrix can encode up to 2,335 alphanumeric characters in miniature footprints (down to 2×2 mm), making it the global standard for electronics manufacturing, aerospace part marking (DoD MIL-STD-130), and healthcare pharmaceutical serialization (FDA UDI).
