How to Use

  1. Enter your 13-digit trade item payload to auto-calculate the 14th check digit, or enter a complete 14-digit GTIN-14.
  2. The tool automatically computes and validates the official GS1 Modulo-10 check digit.
  3. If a check digit mismatch occurs, click 'Fix Check Digit' to adopt the mathematically verified code.
  4. Adjust sizing, height, margins, or colors under Appearance Settings if desired.
  5. Click 'Download SVG' for vector artwork with protective bearer bars, or 'Download PNG' for warehouse documentation.

About This Format

ITF-14 (designated GTIN-14 by GS1) is the global trade item barcode standard for outer master cartons and shipping containers. Based on the Interleaved 2 of 5 symbology, ITF-14 encodes exactly 14 numeric digits: a 1-digit packaging indicator (1–8 for fixed quantities, 9 for variable measure), the 12-digit product GTIN payload, and a Modulo-10 check digit. It includes thick rectangular surrounding borders called “bearer bars” that equalize printing plate pressure on coarse corrugated cardboard and prevent scanning misreads.

Validation & Technical Constraints

  • Accepts exactly 13 numeric digits (payload) or 14 numeric digits (payload with check digit).
  • Enforces the official GS1 Modulo-10 check digit calculation.
  • Includes standard bearer bars to meet GS1 logistics distribution requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Bearer bars are the thick black frame bars surrounding an ITF-14 symbol. They serve two vital purposes: they equalize mechanical pressure on flexographic printing plates when stamping onto uneven corrugated cardboard, and they prevent handheld laser scanners from registering partial 'short reads' if the scan beam wanders outside the symbol.

The initial digit is the Packaging Indicator. Values from 1 to 8 represent packaging hierarchy (such as a case, inner pack, or pallet). The value 9 indicates variable-measure trade items like weight-based goods.

No. ITF-14 is exclusively for distribution, warehousing, and wholesale logistics. Consumer products scanned at checkout must bear standard EAN-13 or UPC-A barcodes.
