SVG is recommended for physical printing. PNG is ready for digital usage.
Generated entirely in your browser without network requests. Renders standard symbology geometry locally — creating a barcode image does not issue, register, or license a GS1 identifier.
How to Use
- Enter your 12-digit product payload to auto-calculate the 13th check digit, or enter a complete 13-digit GTIN.
- The tool automatically applies the official GS1 Modulo-10 check digit algorithm in real-time.
- If a check digit mismatch is detected, click 'Fix Check Digit' to adopt the mathematically correct code.
- Adjust sizing, height, margins, or colors under Appearance Settings if necessary.
- Click 'Download SVG' for razor-sharp retail packaging print files or 'Download PNG' for digital records.
About This Format
EAN-13 (International Article Number, designated GTIN-13 by GS1) is the universal point-of-sale retail barcode standard defined under ISO/IEC 15420. It comprises 13 numeric digits: a GS1 prefix (representing the issuing country or organization), a manufacturer company prefix, an individual product reference number, and a final Modulo-10 check digit that guarantees optical scanner integrity.
Validation & Technical Constraints
- Accepts exactly 12 numeric digits (payload) or 13 numeric digits (payload with check digit).
- Enforces the official GS1 Modulo-10 check digit calculation.
- Never silently renders an invalid check digit, preventing costly product packaging reprints.

Frequently Asked Questions
GS1 uses a weighted Modulo-10 algorithm. Starting from the rightmost payload digit (digit 12), odd positions from the right are multiplied by 3 and even positions by 1. The sum is subtracted from the next higher multiple of 10 to determine the check digit.
You may use this generated graphic on your packaging only if the 13-digit GTIN number itself has been officially licensed and assigned to your business by GS1. This tool generates the graphic representation but does not register or license numbers. Read our EAN-13 vs. UPC-A Guide (/learn/ean-vs-upc) for retail scanner compatibility and international numbering rules.
If the last digit of your 13-digit number does not match the GS1 Modulo-10 checksum of the preceding 12 digits, retail checkout scanners will reject it. Our validator alerts you and offers a one-click button to fix the check digit.
SVG files are vector-based, ensuring that the barcode bars and quiet zones maintain exact millimeter precision at any print resolution without pixelation or ink-spread degradation.
